Weigh in day tomorrow! I feel like I have lost some this week. Fingers crossed...

Day 13

Saturday 28th November 2009

Time to target date: 246 days
Weight loss last week: 5 pounds
Total weight loss: 5 pounds

A strange day...

Was up very early as I had to catch a very early train to London. Was there for most of the day. Had an Indian buffet for lunch in a restaurant, comprising of rice, a bit of korma and a salad. Had a couple of drinks in the afternoon.

Got a train back in the early evening and went straight into town for drinks with friends. Had the worst night of my life and ended up going home at 2330. Decided that as I hadn't done any exercise for a couple of days, I would walk home. At the time it didn't seem like it was that far. In the end, 2 hours later, I had walked just over 4 miles. I was very wet as well (a combination of the rain and the sea). At the time, I wished I had got a taxi but on reflection, I think walking was a good choice.

Day 12

Friday 27th November 2009

Time to target date: 247 days
Weight loss last week: 5 pounds
Total weight loss: 5 pounds

Can't seem to get out of this night shift sleeping pattern this cycle for some reason. Didn't go to bed until 0630 this morning and slept most of the day again, waking up at 1530.

Didn't really do much for the rest of the day. Cooked chicken fajitas for dinner which were nice.

Forcing myself to go to bed now as I'm going to London for the day tomorrow and I have to be up at about 0630 to catch the train. Lots of walking involved. Going out drinking tomorrow night as well. Hopefully all the walking will make up for it!

Getting close to weigh in day...

Day 11

Thursday 26th November 2009

Time to target date: 248 days
Weight loss last week: 5 pounds
Total weight loss: 5 pounds

Didn't go to bed until 9am because of the night shift last night. Woke up mid afternoon so missed breakfast and lunch.

Finally, the weather held off! Went out for the long anticipated bike ride. Extended is slightly and ended up cycling 8 miles. It was knackering! Last mile or so it started pissing it down so I got soaked. Was worth it though. Felt really good.

Cooked a chili con carnie for dinner. Never done one before. It was so nice. I am such a good cook!! :P Had some fruit and yoghurt afterwards.

Another bike ride planned for tomorrow. Please weather God, make it nice.

Day 10

Wednesday 25th November 2009

Time to target date: 249 days
Weight loss last week: 5 pounds
Total weight loss: 5 pounds

Another strange day with a night shift. I literally slept all day and woke up at 1730. Had my breakfast (Boiled egg with toasted soldiers) and eventually went to work. Annoyingly, I got sent home at midnight.

Got home and cooked dinner of chicken and potatoes.

Stayed up far too late.

Again, not really much to tell you...

Day 9

Tuesday 24th November 2009

Time to target date: 250 days
Weight loss last week: 5 pounds
Total weight loss: 5 pounds

A slightly strange day. I worked a night shift so spent most of the day in bed.

Once I woke up, the weather was naff again so no bike ride. I did need to go to the shop though, so walked. It was about a mile in total.

Had a baked potato with bolognaise and salad for dinner. It was amazing!

Had an apple and a salad at work at about 2am.

Nothing else to say really, I spent the day either sleeping or working.

Day 8

Monday 23rd November 2009

Time to target date: 251 days
Weight loss last week: 5 pounds
Total weight loss: 5 pounds

Yey! I actually lost some weight after the first week! I think 5 pounds for the first week is pretty good. It is certainly more than I expected.

My day started reasonably early today as I had lots of things to do. Had a couple of boiled eggs with toasted soldiers for breakfast. Sadly, the weather was naff again so couldn't do the bike ride :( Also didn't get chance to use the wii because I had so many other things to do. Had a cheese sandwich for lunch before heading off to work just before 1400.

Again, the food in the canteen was reasonably edible this evening. Not sure why! I had a Chicken Rogan Josh, pretty tasty.

Got home from work just after 2100 after taking a nice early go. Celebrated my weight loss with a nice juicy apple :P

I should be able to get the bike ride done tomorrow. I'm on a night shift, so once I have woken up in the late afternoon I will see what the weather is like. Fingers crossed!

Day 7

Sunday 22nd November 2009

Time to target date: 252 days

Another slightly iffy day.

I woke up really really late. Literally 30 minutes before I had to leave for work. As a result, I was running around the house like a crazed lunatic and didn't get chance to eat a proper breakfast or lunch. Just grabbed an apple and banana on my way out of the door. Naughty, I know. I also didn't get chance to do the bike ride I had planned either.

Today was the first day I had to endure the canteen at work for dinner during this new period in my life. It is usually crap. Thankfully, as it was Sunday, they were doing a roast and it wasn't that bad. I had some lamb with potatoes, carrots, broccoli and gravy followed by an apple.

I was planning on doing a bike ride when I got home if I managed to get out of work reasonably early. Unfortunately, I didn't get home until just after 10pm so it was too late. I couldn't have done it anyway, work was quite busy and mentally draining today. All I wanted to do was relax.

I'm determined to wake up early tomorrow and go for that bike ride. I'm lucky in that I am the late afternoon at work which means I start one hour later (3pm - 11pm) so I should have plenty of time to get the ride in even if I wake up at about lunch time.

Weigh in tomorrow! Not very optimistic but we shall see...

Day 6

Saturday 21st November 2009

Time to target date: 253 days

Wow, almost a week in. I really want some chocolate!! I don't think I have gone this long without it in years! :D

Another morning shift at work today. Actually managed to get a decent amount of sleep last night for the first time in about 3 nights. Was in a bit of a rush this morning so just grabbed a banana on my way out of the house and ate it on the way. Could have got some breakfast at work but had some paperwork and other bits to do so didn't get chance.

Had a salad for lunch, took my own in. Can't trust the food they give us in the crap canteen...

Got home about 1430 just as it started pissing it down. I was really annoyed. Planned a 6.5 mile bike ride yesterday that I was going to do. The wind and the rain were awful though and I didn't fancy going out in it so didn't bother. I'm going to try and go out for the ride tomorrow morning before work as long as the weather is reasonable.

Had dinner quite late this evening. Made myself a home made vegetable lasagne. It was amazing! The best one I have made in a while if I do say so myself!

Have spent the rest of the evening chillaxing. Had 1 small glass on wine, I think I deserved it.

Nervously looking forward to the weigh in on Monday morning. I just hope things are going in the right direction...

Day 5

Friday 20th November 2009

Time to target date: 254 days

Well, today went better than yesterday. First day back at work. Didn't sleep much again unfortunately. Had a banana and apple for breakfast whilst in the car on my way to work.

For lunch, I had a cheese and cucumber sandwich from the canteen, wasn't fantastic but best there was.

When I got home, I decided that I should probably do some form of exercise as I didn't do any yesterday. Decided I would take the bike out for a ride now that it is working properly. Somehow, I managed to ride for 5 miles! My legs were killing me when I got home. (Someone please remind me not to ride up hill into a headwind again!) Really enjoyed the ride though, was good fun.

Got home and had what seemed like 45 pints of water and relaxed for the rest of the day. Couldn't be bothered to cook anything properly so just decided to make pizza for dinner. Had a go at making the base myself as well which went fine. Topped it with sauce, cheese, mushrooms, peppers and a couple of slices of pepperoni - Yum!

Didn't do anything else all evening...

Day 4

Thursday 19th November 2009

Time to target date: 255 days

Well, I finally hit one of the "I can't be bothered to do anything days".

I had very little sleep during the night, so spent most of the morning having short naps on the sofa. As a consequence, I missed breakfast.

At lunch time, I finally decided to get dressed and made some lunch. Had a small portion of tomato pasta followed by a banana and an apple.

During the afternoon, I decided I would attempt to fix the bike. Went and bought some WD40 and to my surprise, lots of it on the gear mechanism followed by lots of wiggling, freed it all up and the gears work perfectly now. I did want to go out for a ride on it but again, it was really windy and I didn't fancy getting blown off it. As I was so knackered, I decided to have a day off from the walking as well. On reflection, I wish I had gone for one now.

At dinner, I cooked home made fish, chips and mushy peas - the alternative healthy version. (A cod fillet tossed in breadcrumbs and lightly fried with some oven cooked home made chips and some mashed up peas). Tasted quite nice and I enjoyed cooking it.

By 9pm, I was so tired I went to bed. Hopefully days like this will be few and far between...

Day 3

Wednesday 18th November 2009

Time to target date: 256 days

Another good day!

I actually managed to have an early night last night (well, early in my terms..about 1am) so got up reasonably early (0830) this morning. It was the first morning I have seen in about a week! Woke myself up with a couple of boiled eggs with toasted soldiers and lots of water.

Eventually got dressed then got out all my Gordon Ramsay cook books to decide what to cook for dinner. Decided to do a Roast chicken with roasted baby vegetables. Had to go out to the supermarket then to buy a few bits. I was going to go to Halfords to get the WD40 for the bike, but I couldn't be bothered. Plus, it was VERY windy again today so I would have just got blown off the thing if I had gone out on it.

Got home and had lunch, a small portion of spicy Moroccan couscous with tomato. Was quite yummy. Had a banana and an apple afterwards. I then decided that I would be a nice boyfriend and walk my girlfriend to work. I planned to turn it into my daily walk so sorted myself a new route. Went out in the car to measure the route, because I'm sad, it was 1.6 miles.

Left the house at 1400 and 29 minutes later, was back at home. Found the walk relatively easy whilst going round but when I got back home and sat down, my legs started to ache a bit. Didn't last very long thankfully.

At about 1700, I started making the dinner. Stuffed the chicken with garlic, lemon, rosemary and thyme then roasted carrots around it. Served it with some chicken stock and some sliced potato. It was AMAZING! - Picture here :P http://twitpic.com/q08tv

After dinner, I was sat watching some TV and having a battle with myself. My head was saying go out for another walk but my heart was saying sit on the sofa and watch the telly...I decided to go with my head and went out for another walk. Did the 1.6 mile walk again giving a total of 3.2 miles walked today - Was very pleased with that! Got back from my walk and had another banana and apple.

Sat chilling with the TV again now. Couldn't believe the ending of Spooks!

The pissing is bad again. I have been up and down every 5 minutes. My mum says it will get better once my body gets used to it. I hope...

Last day off work tomorrow - don't know where the days off have gone this cycle...

Hope you all had a good day :)

Day 2

Tuesday 17th November 2009

Time to target date: 257 days

Another great day! Really getting into this healthy stuff quite easily.

My day started late (12.30) again today (I really have to start going to bed earlier) so I missed breakfast once more. Woke myself up with my first pint of water of the day. Currently sipping away at my 6th pint. Thankfully, the pissing isn't as bad today!

I eventually got myself dressed and made lunch. I had tomato pasta with a salad and coleslaw. Washed it down with an apple and a banana.

After lunch, I decided to take a look at the bike. I thought that it was locked to the railings so was looking all over for the key. I couldn't find it anywhere! Eventually, after about 30 mins of hunting, I went outside to the bike and noticed that it wasn't actually locked to the railings at all! I felt a complete tit.

Like I said yesterday, it has been sat on my balcony for about 2 years without being moved. Surprisingly, it was in a decent enough condition. It was a little rusty in places and needed a good wash but apart from that, appeared fine.

whilst it was drying, I went on the computer and plotted a route. I had planned to ride down to the beach, ride along it for a while and then go back home. Trip length was 5.5 miles, a nice length to get me into it I felt.

I managed to get the bike downstairs (climbing over the washing line that my house mate had put across the balcony. It was like a challenge in the Crystal Maze!) and was about to go out for my ride when I realised that the tyres didn't have much air in thm. Damn. I couldn't find my pump. I went over to 2 neighbours houses to see if I could borrow one but they weren't in. I ended up going to Halfords and buying one. They charged me £20 for a pissing pump! I couldn't believe it...oh well.

I finally got the tyres sorted and went out. It's true what they say - You never forget how to ride a bike. It's the first time in about 3 years. It felt really good to be out on it. The only bad thing was that the seat was awful! The most uncomfortable seat I have sat on in my life. It was all going well until i got out of the street and tried to change the gear. It just wouldn't change any higher than 8th gear (it has 21 in total). That resulted in me peddling like a bandit to try and get the bike to move at a reasonable speed. I was knackered! I realised that doing the entire 5.5 miles was not going to happen, so just ended up covering 2 miles instead. I was quite disappointed that I had to cut it short but I think I made the right decision. My legs would have flown off otherwise!

I have a feeling that the gear mechanism has just seized up because it has been sat for so long not doing anything. I'm going to try some WD40 on it in the morning to see if that helps. Fingers crossed!

When I got back home and had some water and a bit of a rest, I cooked dinner. I was going to cook a chicken dauphinoise but forget to get stuff in to make the sauce and couldn't be arsed to go to the shop. In the end, I just made chicken with potato slices and a salad. It was very yummy!

I then sat and watched a bit of TV. I was still disappointed that I didn't manage to do the full bike ride so decided to go out for my walk to make up for it. Managed to do the 1 mile walk in 18 mins tonight, 3 minutes quicker than last night. Really enjoyed it again. My legs started to hurt half way round but I stuck at it and kept going so was really proud of myself for doing so. I could have turned back or taken a short cut, but I didn't. I think I'm going to try and do the bike ride and the walk each day. Will see how I feel once I manage to do the full bike ride!

When I got home from the walk, I had more water and another banana and apple. I can't understand why people don't eat fruit and veg. I have been neglecting it for years. It's really nice!

Things are going really great so far, I'm really chuffed. Hopefully, I can get the gears on the bike working. Would be a shame if not...

See you tomorrow ;)

Day 1 Continued

Monday 16th November 2009

Well, it's almost the end of day 1 and I'm feeling great! I have a new positive outlook on life and I love it.

My day started at 14:30 this afternoon when I woke up. (Today was my first day off from work so I always have a lazy day, hence why I slept so late!) As I woke up so late, I missed breakfast and lunch so didn't have any. (Yes, I know...very naughty. Will be having both tomorrow!) Had my first pint of water for the day shortly after waking up (currently supping away at my 5th as I write this). I haven't drunk this much water in ages. I can't stop pissing!

Didn't have any food in the house so had to go shopping. Went about 17:30 and had a banana on the way (1 of the 5 a day). Bought lots of healthy stuff; not seen my trolley like that in years! All this healthy stuff is bloody expensive though!

Got home and made myself dinner. Had a couple of small baked potatoes with beans, cheese, salad and coleslaw. It was really yummy and filled me up. (I find the best way to cook the potatoes is to put them in le micro for 15 mins then put them in the oven for 20 mins or so to make them crispy.)

After dinner, I sat and had a think about what sort of exercise regime I could come up with. I don't feel confident enough yet to go out and join a gym (nor do I have the money!) so I'm going to have a go at doing some home exercise first. I decided that walking/biking would be the best thing for me to start with. I bought my bike about 2 years ago and have used it maybe once. It's been sat gathering rust on my balcony ever since. Tomorrow morning I'm going to see if it still works...I hope so. It cost me £200! We also have a nintendo wii in the house with a wii fit board, so I'm going to try and do 30 mins exercise a day on it.

I decided that the way I would probably work things would be to go for a walk one night then bike the next night then walk the night after and so on. I figured a mile would be a good start so plotted a route in my head. I then went out in the car to measure it and make sure it was roughly that distance. My planning was very good, it was just over a mile.

At 20:00, once my dinner had settled, I set out for my walk. 21 minutes later I was back at home. I thought it was going to take much longer than that! The great thing was that I really enjoyed it and can't wait for tomorrow to do it again, hopefully on the bike. (I think I may do it twice on the bike, 2 miles.)

When I got back, I was feeling a little peckish so got some fruit. Had some strawberries, banana, raspberries and pineapple chunks with some fat free natural yoghurt. It was yummy and now I'm stuffed. It's surprising how eating the right sort of foods in moderation can fill you up so quickly. I couldn't eat another thing even though in reality, I have barely eaten a thing today.

Just chilling now with the TV and my water but feeling really great about things. I hope that it continues to be as easy as it is feeling right now (even though I know it won't be)

Looking forward to tomorrow! Hopefully I can get that bike running...

Day 1

Monday 16th November 2009

Time to target date: 258 days

I suppose I should explain what this blog is all about...

I love food! I mean, who doesn't? Unfortunately, I love it more than I should. I'm really not in a happy place at the moment and it is all due to one issue - my weight. I really don't like how I look and it's starting to get me down more than ever.

I have always been quite a big guy and have struggled with my weight on and off for years. Over the last 3 or so years though since I moved away from home, things have become even worse and I really don't look after myself as I should. It is really beginning to effect my health and I fear that when my medical for work comes up for renewal, I won't pass it.

I went on the scales this evening and was horrified. At the moment, I'm far too embarrassed to mention what it said but it was really bad. I really need to lose lots.

Today, Monday 16th November is the start of the brand new me. I am determined to lose the weight. (I know I can do it. I went on a diet about a year ago and lost 2 stone. Sadly, I became complacent and put it all back on and more). I haven't yet decided on a target weight but somewhere in the region of 11 stone would be perfect and make me happier than I have been for years.

My medical is due for renewal sometime in August 2010 so I have set myself a target date of 1st August 2010, some 258 days from now. In this blog, I plan to record the things I eat everyday and the exercise I do and the trials and tribulations that occur.

There are 2 main reasons for me writing this blog; 1) I have more of an incentive to reach my goal if I know that people are reading and willing me to do it 2) I hope that when I reach my goal, it inspires other people out there and shows them that anyone can do it.

I have a new positive outlook on life and I know that I will succeed. It won't be easy but I know with the support of my loving family and friends, I can do it.

See you on the other side...
